Abstract: In this contribution the author suggests a classification for the different types of dictionaries available online: static dictionaries, dynamic dictionaries and semi-dynamic dictionaries as an intermediate solution. The differences between static and dynamic online dictionaries are illustrated by looking at how they deal with neologisms, trendy words and local terms. For this analysis, the information provided by the French Wiktionary, the most popular crowd-sourced dictionary launched by Wikimedia Foundation, is compared with the corresponding entries in francophone reference dictionaries such as Le Petit Robert and the TLFI.
