2008 will be the bicentenary of the publication of John Jamieson's "Etymological Dictionary of the Scottish Language", the first comprehensive dictionary of the Scots language and the foundation of Scots historical lexicography. The Electronic Jamieson project aims to mark this event by creating an electronic facsimilie of the first edition of Jamieson's "Dictionary". A further, scholarly edition is planned for the future, which will incorporate the findings of a separate research project on Jamieson's life and work. This will include annotations drwan from manuscript and archive sources, and will provide new information about Scots usage in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. |
