The present contribution provides an illustration of a project aimed at creating an electronic German-Italian dictionary of "indeclinable" words. The project is based on a large bilingual corpus comprising authentic texts (both written and oral) and their respective translations. The dictionary is designed to be a work in progress and will start from German so called 'modal particles' - i.e., multi-purpose lexemes which are relevant on the communicative and interactional level, and particularly difficult to translate in other languages. The second step will be to explore the opportunity of including other 'particle' types and/or other languages that employ indeclinable modality markers and lexemes which are linguistic universals that can be found across several languages. |
