This overview outlines the development and management of the Longman dictionary database and illustrates how it has provided a flexible and easily accessible source of material for producing text for new titles. The database is continually and systematically updated by means of an electronic citations bank, and provides lexicographers with a tool to accelerate the compilation, editorial and production of dictionaries without changing the distinctive substance of lexicological work. |
