Abstract: MIRADOR aims to create tailored descriptions which assist users in selecting relevant resources on the Web. In this paper, we distinguish between the processes of "searching" with a query and "selection" among the results of the query, and we describe a user model for metadata which supports selection. We outline how we may combine the user model with aspects of tailoring to the query, so as to produce concise and useful descriptions of resources.
