| Abstract: |
Both OWID/elexiko for German and ordnet.dk for Danish may be considered as pioneers in the field of using the web as a base for dictionary-like lexical information systems. Because the web permits modeling of many different traditional media, e.g. printed or audio-visual, and because it facilitates immediate user interaction, the design of a lexical information system becomes a complex challenge for traditional book-oriented lexicography. Based on the question, to what extent the classical book medium and the typical ways of interacting with it are renewed fruitfully and not just virtually copied, we aim to compare elexiko and a prototype of the dictionary component of ordnet.dk. As a result of this, it becomes clear that elexiko and ordnet.dk are focusing on slightly differing issues: Whereas elexiko emphasizes exploring new micro-structural possibilities in order to achieve a comprehensive lexicographic description, ordnet.dk prioritizes functionality of the dictionary, e.g. new ways of looking up lexical information. |
