The following contribution deals with an immediate problem that occupies not only publishers of reference books but also lexicographers. Wikipedia has proved that it is possible to create an encyclopedia with user-generated-content of high quality. Glottopedia follows Wiki pedia's example by building up an encyclopedia for linguistics. This fact arises the following question: is the quality of Glottopedia
already as high as the one of professionally produced dictionaries? If not, a second question comes up: will Glottopedia be able to reach the quality of those dictionaries in the future? The latter depends on the users of Glottopedia and there fore is hardly predictable. The first question will be the subject of this article, which contains a comparison between Glottopedia and the "Wörterbücher zur Sprach- und
Kommunikationswissenschaft" (WSK) from the University of Erlangen. For that purpose some selected articles of both dictionaries will be discussed from the point of view of a semi-expert. |
