Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the main lexicographical works written by French scholars that have been published as Latin dictionaries. The 1934 Latin-French dictionary by F. Gaffiot, usually called Le Gaffiot, was recently revised and reissued as Le Grand Gaffiot (2000). Some "pocket" dictionaries or lexicons of Ancient and Medieval Latin were also published recently. Thanks to its scientific modernity, the dictionary of Christian authors by A. Blaise (1954) is still essential reading for our knowledge of Late Latin, and likewise the Latin etymological dictionary by A. Ernout and A. Meillet is still outstanding. Among the works currently in preparation, we look at the Novum Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis, a Medieval Latin dictionary, as well as the DHELL (Dictionnaire historique et encyclopédie linguistique du latin), a four-year internet-based project that will make available a wide variety of current research in the field of Latin linguistics.
