The article addresses two meanings of historical lexicography: (i) the lexicography concerning older varieties of German, disregarding the age of the dictionary describing the variety, and (ii) the lexicographical research about historical (older) dictionaries. After some short hints concerning the state of the art in both fields, four assumptions are made. The first concerns a European, global and "glocal" contextualization of lexicography. The second deals with the interrelation between encyclopaedic lexicons and dictionaries; the third deals with electronic portals which link together (a) dictionaries and corpora and (b) several dictionaries with each other. Finally the view of future users and usability under changing condition of literacy is addressed. |
