Abstract: The world has become a global village and in the countries of the "Western" society, the English language holds a dominant role. Whether it is in the form of movies, books, newspaper articles, education or international conferences, the need for translating English into one's own mother tongue is at its peak. Translators dealing with this subject often find themselves dumbfounded when coming across rich verbalisations, be it in the form of literary works or the everyday parole so frequently encountered in American sitcoms. This is especially problematic in the scope of idioms, which carry more meanings than meets the eye. The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of the inclusion of idioms in existing general dictionaries in the Slovene territory, and to introduce a practically oriented project that has been founded under the PhD thesis entitled Phraseological and Lexicographical Perspectives of English Idioms and Their Equivalents in Slovene; namely, an online monodirectional bilingual (English-Slovene) dictionary of idioms, Project: Idiom - its emergence, evolution, as well as the solutions and challenges which it poses.
