The coming of age of the internet is reshaping entire industries and even changing the very notion of organisations, firms, and so on. Within this framework, which is referred to as a Cambrian explosion (Siegele, 2014), this paper focuses on changes related with the design and construction of specialised online dictionaries. These changes focus on possibilities for incorporating technologies and working methodologies that can substantially modify the specific characteristics of specialised online dictionaries. Some of these are commented on and illustrated in this paper, e.g. innovations for data filtering, adding supplementary data, and cloud computing for lexicographic purposes, to prepare lexicographic databases and feed them with data analysed and synthesised by the combined work of lexicographers, experts in the field and IT experts. Briefly, this paper supports the view that the design and construction of specialised
online dictionaries is a joint endeavour in which these three groups should work
together. |
