Abstract: |
We report on an ongoing project aimed at making the scholarly reference work A Dictionary of South African English on Historical Principles (DSAE, Silva et al. 1996) accessible for selective online querying1. On the basis of the XML version of the current online edition of the dictionary, we perform two major steps towards this goal: (i) the design of interactive presentation devices for the dictionary, and (ii) the enhancement of the available lexicographic data categories. We take inspiration from the Function Theory of Lexicography (Tarp 2008), even though its main focus is on communicatively oriented dictionaries, while the DSAE primarily serves cognitive purposes. Since we are reporting on an
ongoing project, we only present examples of the work. |
